AC Milan Not Revenge With Donnarumma’s Decision

Jakarta

Gianluigi Donnarumma decided to leave AC Milan in this summer. Even so, the Rossoneri CEO Ivan Gazidis said there was no friction between his team and the player.

Donnarumma’s departure from the San Siro was due to the lack of agreement regarding the extension of his contract, which expires on June 30. Milan are reported to have offered a salary increase from 6.5 to 8 million per season, but it is still not enough for Donnarumma.

Not to mention there is a certain amount of commission money that must be paid to Mino Raiola who became the agent for the 22-year-old goalkeeper. Milan finally took a step back and recruited Mike Maignan from Lille as a replacement.

Maignan’s own salary is not up to half Donnarumma, but his quality is quite tested because he has just led Lille to win the French League by defeating Paris Saint-Germain.

Donnarumma’s departure gives the impression that he is ‘too regulated’ by Raiola, especially regarding salary. But Gazidis said: Milan did not hold any grudges when he gave up Donnarumma, a player who has been at Milan since the age of 14.

“I don’t want to reveal details, or the timing, and I also don’t know the boundaries of the relationship between Gigio and Mino Raiola. In the end, the decision is always made by the player,” Gazidis told Corriere dello Sport, quoted by Sky Sport Italia.

“All I can say is that Gigio is an extraordinary professional player, and when we made sure to qualify for the Champions League in the last game (Serie A) against Atalanta, no one was happier than him.”

“I respect his choice. He did what he thought was best, and there are several reasons why he did it. We have no problem with Raiola, we are fine and it is not our goal to distance ourselves from his client,” said Gazidis about the relationship. Milan and Donnarumma.

Donnarumma still looking for a new club so far. Reportedly, PSG are interested in signing him, as well as Juventus.
