AC Ajaccio supporters attacked in the streets of Niort before the match

A few hours before the kick-off of the Niort-AC Ajaccio match, a fight involving around thirty individuals, including ACA supporters, caused six minor injuries in the city center of Niort on Saturday March 5.

Around 4 p.m. on Saturday March 5, a fight broke out in downtown Niort, shortly before the Niort-AC Ajaccio match. According to the daily The New Republicwhich reports the facts, six people were slightly injured.

A 22-year-old man lost consciousness and was taken to hospital, but according to the first elements, his discomfort was not due to beatings received.

“This is not a fight between supporters”, reports Commander Lepape, at the Niort police station. “About forty Ajaccio supporters were in the city center, with an outfit that left no doubt about what they were doing there. They were shouted at by people from Niort, who are not supporters.”

According to Ajaccio supporters on the spot, the scuffles first started on the sidelines of a demonstration against the war in Ukraine.

For the police, even if “people complain of having been beaten”, “this is an incident which did not cause any victims and no complaint has been filed.”

At the end of this fight, the police escorted the supporters at 5 p.m. to the René-Gaillard stadium. “They waited until the game at 7 p.m. with Niort supporters and there was no incident.”

AC Ajaccio (3rd, 51 points) brought back a precious success from this meeting with Niort 1-0, thanks to a late goal from Jean-Philippe Krasso (87th), allowing them to return to a small point behind Paris FC and second place.
