Abwerzger for coalition only with “clean people’s party”

After the tape became known in which the late justice section chief Christian Pilnacek made allegations against the ÖVP, Tyrol’s FPÖ leader Markus Abwerzger threw the coalition rod in the window of the People’s Party. After the coming election, the Freedom Party would only enter into a coalition with a “clean ÖVP”, National Council President Wolfgang Sobotka should not play a role in coalition negotiations or later, said Abwerzger in the APA interview.

A prominent role for Sobotka was “unthinkable,” and the Tyrolean state party chairman spoke out against a possible blue-black collaboration in such a case: “The ÖVP has to clean things up internally.” “This also applies to everyone else who helped undermine the independent judiciary,” explained Abwerzger. Hopefully investigations by the public prosecutor’s office will reveal who all of these are, but: “I don’t assume that Sobotka is a suspected individual perpetrator.”

The allegations involve the fact that the recently deceased Pilnacek spoke privately in a bar about the fact that Sobotka had accused him of never turning down investigations. The conversation from last summer was secretly recorded and made available to several media outlets in the past few days. Sobotka rejected the allegations, and the Vienna public prosecutor’s office is investigating initial suspicions against him for attempted abuse of office.

“Those who remain silent are complicit,” Abwerzger told the People’s Party. This applies in particular to Tyrol’s ÖVP chairman and state governor Anton Mattle. He should “finally express himself” – “especially since he always comes with such high moral values, including when it comes to the exclusion of the Tyrolean FPÖ.” Mattle and other ÖVP greats now have to “take a clear position.”: “The time for looking away and disappearing is over.”

The “sensible and moderate forces in the ÖVP, of which there are many,” would now have to take custody into their own hands. He even believes that the cause “increases the chances of a clean ÖVP,” said Abwerzger. And she comes out of her “self-pity mode.”

Federal President Alexander Van der Bellen must finally step up to the plate and take a stand. “The green upper moralist usually speaks up at every Lercherlschas. But here he is silent,” Abwerzger attacked the head of state. When it comes to the independence of the judiciary, this is ultimately of the highest political interest, emphasized the lawyer.
