ABV remains in power after a backroom deal –

/ world today news/ After the dramatic resignation of Georgi Parvanov, ABV convened a national conference on April 26 to resolve two fateful issues:

1) Whether to stay in power or withdraw support from the government and 2) Choosing a party leader. In fact both issues have already been resolvedbehind the scenes and secretly from the public and even from the party membership. This is the exact opposite of the declared desire for intra-party democracy and transparency.

Without pretense of clairvoyance, I will tell you what will the conference “decide”. in about a week. On the first question: ABV will not withdraw its support from the government. In spite of a large part of the people who voted for them because of their promise that they would fight to prevent Borissov from coming to power. And the loud accusations against the government, made by Parvanov himself for more than a month: there was no dialogue; GERB did not respect its partners; Borisov made decisions alone; the Minister of Finance misled, or even lied; the government led Bulgaria to the greatest international isolation… After all this, however, ABV will continue to support it.

Why?

The former president yesterday dropped the admission that ABV’s support for the coalition will depend on whether the partners support the reforms proposed by ABV, above all the pension reform of Vice Kalfin. This is an elegant way of getting out, because the bills for these reforms will not go to parliament until May, and it is not at all certain that they will be considered before the summer vacation of MPs. And for the most naive, it is clear that by April 26, when it was supposed to be decided whether ABV would withdraw from power, no package of reforms would have been introduced, nor would it be clear whether GERB and the others would support it. Why then did ABV play the theater?

Another recognition of Parvanov from yesterday: “I think we are returning to the good traditions of dialogue, such as were at the very beginning during the preparation of the program declaration”. How come just a few days ago there was no dialogue, GERB did not consult with them, and now suddenly everything is fine. As Rumen Petkov hinted, there was a “working meeting” between the leaders of the two parties, but for now there are no details about it. What is hiding? What did they agree on with Borisov and when will they inform the public?

On the second question: no one doubts that Parvanov will be re-elected as chairman of ABV. It’s good that they finally managed to convince two others not to withdraw, because it would have been funny if the former president was the only candidate for the presidency. Hopefully, at least the relatives and friends of the other candidates vote for them to save Parvanov from winning with the great 99.98%.

When theater is performed by amateurs like Parvanov and company, the problem is that sometimes they get so involved that they forget what is the script and what is reality. But the Bulgarian voter has already learned to see behind the masks. Because of this, ABV is collapsing and it will be a miracle if they get even the 2 percent given to them by sociologists in the elections.
