But it didn’t stop there, because the man asked them to send naked photos of themselves as well as pictures and videos that showed them performing sexual acts on themselves.
If the data stream threatened to dry up, the defendant revealed his true intentions all the more brazenly and manipulatively: He told the children that he would publish the photos and videos they had already sent on social media. In this way he is said to have managed to obtain several child pornographic images and videos. Child porn – law first tightened, then weakened again
It was only in 2021 that the Bundestag upgraded the possession and distribution of child porn from a misdemeanor to a felony, thus also tightening the minimum and maximum penalties. The possession was then downgraded back to a misdemeanor in May 2024.
The stricter legal situation must have been applied at least partially in the cases with which the defendant was accused. According to the prosecution, he still kept 208 child pornography images and 23 such films in his Sasel apartment in July 2021. He is also said to have hoarded 415 pieces of child pornography on his smartphone in October 2023.
