On Thursday one of the most brazen social welfare fraudsters in Winterthur was probably standing in front of the Zurich Higher Court. Between 2006 and 2015, the man cheated a good 300,000 francs from the city of Winterthur.
He withheld from the social welfare office all the income he had made with a flourishing car garage in the wine country and an online vehicle trade. While he was happily tinkering with cars, medical certificates certified that he was 100 percent incapable of work for a large part of the time.
The Winterthur district court had sentenced the fraudster to a partial prison sentence of 33 months in November. The court pronounced 12 months unconditionally – the six months in pre-trial detention would count towards this.
