Meldpunt Mores has been giving the coverage around The world goes on (DDD) has received several reports of similar cases in other places within the public broadcaster. The work culture research behind the scenes of DDD it is therefore extended to the entire broadcaster. The non-profit organization announced it on Friday evening.
In Mores, people can report infringing behavior within the theatre, film and television industry. The reporting center will notify the commission that is conducting the investigation, the NGO writes in a press release.
Due to the new reports, the commission was asked to expand the investigation and beyond DDD and BNNVARA. Mores’ confidential counselors remain available to employees who wish to report misconduct.
On Friday, NPO head Frederieke Leeflang, state secretary Gunay Uslu (Media) and government commissioner for cross-border behavior Mariëtte Hamer sat around the table.
It hit Friday last week DDDpresenter Matthijs van Nieuwkerk discredited by an article in de Volkskrant. He revealed that there was a culture of fear in the program between 2005 and 2020. This was partly caused by Van Nieuwkerk’s extreme outbursts of anger. According to the newspaper, many employees were scolded, humiliated and intimidated by him.
Van Nieuwkerk has since stopped working with BNNVARA. The programs he made for NTR around the Top 2000 will not continue with him.
Despite the advice on Van Nieuwkerk’s statement, NPO remains a formal client
On Monday, the NPO announced it would add an independent work culture survey DDD. The board of directors of the ONLUS is the formal commissioner of the research.
This is remarkable, as NPO directors Frans Klein and Leeflang advised presenter Van Nieuwkerk before making his first statement about unwanted behaviour. Which he writes de Volkskrant Friday.
However, the same non-profit organization believes that the public broadcaster can continue to be the commissioner of the research. The issuer writes in a statement that the commission that will conduct the investigation is independent. This will consist of four or five people. The committee is also assisted by two independent consultants.

The research is conducted in two parts
The first part of the study focuses on the “systematic causes” of offending behavior. Examples are “the competitive environment, behavior and attitude, and the effect of temporary contracts and working with freelancers”. According to the NPO, this part of the research should lead to concrete recommendations for the future.
The second part of the study focuses on the transgressive behavior itself. This pertains to how the transgressive behavior occurred, what cues there were, and what was done with those cues.
Secretary of State Uslu believes it is a “sensible move” for an independent commission to formally order the investigation and oversee progress. According to the minister, the non-profit organization is the “appropriate party” to launch an investigation. At his request, the Media Authority is also involved in this.
The results of the study are expected to be published in the first half of 2023.
