The Department of Cities and Transport, represented by Abu Dhabi Transport, signed a memorandum of understanding with Regent Industries, with the aim of developing the sustainable maritime transport sector in Abu Dhabi. The memorandum, signed by Abdullah Al Marzouqi, Director General of the Integrated Transport Center, and William Thalheimer, CEO of Regent, aims to provide low-flying electric vehicles for maritime transport, whether for passengers or for the shipping of materials and goods, and accelerating support for the creation of an integrated transport system and support the goals of reducing carbon emissions.
Regent Industries, an American company, specializes in developing and manufacturing electric vehicles for low-passenger marine transport to serve coastal routes, using proven and approved technology. The vehicles will also work to strengthen the integration of land and sea modes of transport and connect them together smoothly, while at the same time increasing the level of efficiency and providing multiple options that integrate with different modes of transport and base – current structure to strengthen new economic opportunities.
The Abu Dhabi Congress determines the requirements for the use of electric marine transport, in addition to providing guidance in environmental studies and assessments, it will also explore the possibility of participating and contributing to a pilot project that will last at least 3 months using a prototype of the electric vehicle for sea transport of low passengers “Seaglider” for testing and make sure it can be used in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi.
