Abu Dhabi Maritime Reports Significant Decrease in Maritime Accidents and Increase in Waterway Safety

Abu Dhabi | Abu Dhabi Maritime, part of the Abu Dhabi Ports Group, reported a 62 percent reduction in maritime accidents in the first half of this year. Compared to the same period in 2021, there was a decrease in the first half of 2023. Abu Dhabi Maritime also noted that there has been a significant increase in the use of safe waterways in the emirate. Abu Dhabi Maritime was established to manage the development of the maritime sector following an agreement between Abu Dhabi Port Group and the Department of Municipalities and Transport (DMT) in 2020 with the aim of assuming the role of regulatory authority, providing maritime services and enhancing the emirate’s status as a global maritime capital.

One of Abu Dhabi Maritime’s primary responsibilities is to ensure strict adherence to international safety standards and best practice operating procedures for waterway use. Director General of Operational Affairs at the Department of Municipalities and Transport, Dr. Salem Khalfan Al Kaabi said.
