And its quest for continuous development and provision of best practices and developments that are compatible with the needs of Emirati women.
Through this campaign, the center aims to improve the health of women, newborn children and families in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi by promoting community health and providing a comprehensive and sustainable health system. Adopting healthy habits to achieve a healthy pregnancy and the importance of periodic examinations during pregnancy and for new mothers, as well as periodic examinations for children.
Her Excellency Dr. Omniyat Al-Hajri, Executive Director of the Community Health Sector at the center, said, “The health and quality of life of the mother and child are two things that cannot be neglected, as both are positively affected by early health interventions.
Prenatal and early childhood interventions play a critical role in life course outcomes and evidence is mounting that early life health and nutritional interventions have a significant impact on women’s health throughout life.”
The “Mother and Child Health” program included many preventive initiatives and periodic examinations for the health of mother and child, in cooperation with maternal and child hospitals in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi.
The program also aims to raise awareness about the importance of preventive examinations and the need to attend periodic pregnancy follow-up visits to ensure the health of the mother and child and early detection of any health problems that require the necessary interventions.
Newborns in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi are subject to mandatory newborn examinations in accordance with the health standards set by the Department of Health – Abu Dhabi Center for Public Health. These include comprehensive physical examinations, genetic heart disease examinations, hearing examination, heel prick examination, in addition to referral, evaluation and counseling in the event that results are discovered that require it.
All governmental and private health facilities concerned with childbirth are obligated to apply the newborn examination system and take the necessary measures, while providing early treatment and periodic follow-up to avoid physical and mental disabilities and reduce deaths.
These examinations detect any developmental disorders, genetic diseases, or metabolic diseases that could affect the child’s health, and health care professionals can intervene early to take the necessary measures before symptoms and problems worsen.
According to the reports of the Genetic Testing Laboratory of the Ministry of Health and Prevention, 36,542 newborns in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi underwent newborn check-ups during 2022, and 2,458 medical conditions whose symptoms and signs appeared after birth, including genetic, metabolic and blood-related diseases, that may affect the child’s growth and health in the long term or threaten his life.
In addition to examinations, the Emirate of Abu Dhabi offers a comprehensive program to educate and educate women and families about the importance of comprehensive health care for mother and child. The program focuses on enhancing awareness of the importance of preventive examinations and health advice during and after pregnancy.
The program also seeks to promote healthy and preventive behaviour, develop public health policies and promote best practices in the field of maternal and child health.
