ABU DHABI, October 10 / WAM / His Excellency Saif Mohammed Al Suwaidi, Director General of the General Authority of Civil Aviation, confirmed that the opening of the new passenger terminal at Abu Dhabi International Airport, Terminal A, will represent a qualitative turning point in raising the level of air transport services in the country towards more advanced horizons. A development that serves national trends in promoting technological transformation and investing in employing smart technologies to develop safe, efficient and sustainable facilities, which will contribute directly to enhancing the competitiveness of the commercial and tourism business environment, supporting the growth of the national economy and improving the quality of life for citizens and residents.
On the sidelines of his inspection visit to the new passenger terminal at Abu Dhabi International Airport, His Excellency Saif Al Suwaidi praised the ongoing preparations to begin operational operations for the building scheduled to open next November…the level of development and progress in the services provided by the new building, including advanced facilities, smart systems and advanced technological solutions. Which was employed to ensure the speed, efficiency and smoothness of operational processes and facilitate procedures for check-in, baggage, security screening, immigration and boarding. He also viewed the digital journey experience that the new building provides to passengers.
For her part, Elena Sorlini, Managing Director and Interim CEO, said: “We express our appreciation to the UAE General Civil Aviation Authority for its continuous support, which played a pivotal role in completing the work on ‘Terminal A’.”
She added: The new building aims to consolidate the position of Abu Dhabi International Airport at the global level, and through this modern and advanced building we aspire to provide passengers from around the world with a distinctive travel experience and contribute significantly to advancing the economic transformation in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi.
She said: “As Terminal A prepares to open its doors to travelers from all over the world, we at Abu Dhabi Airports seek to bridge the distance between cultures, enhance our flights, and shape the future of the global travel sector, thus contributing to leading innovation efforts and raising efficiency to ensure the prosperity of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi.” And continue its growth towards a future rich with opportunities.”
‘Passenger Terminal A’ extends over an area of 742 thousand square metres, and is thus considered one of the largest passenger terminals in the world. The new building will contribute to increasing the capacity of Abu Dhabi International Airport, whether for passengers or cargo. Once it enters the actual operation phase, the building will provide its services to… It reaches 45 million passengers per year, with the capacity to process 11,000 passengers per hour and operate 79 aircraft at all times.
The new building has won many international design awards, thanks to its unique architecture as a remarkable cultural landmark in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi, as it combines modern designs and aesthetic touches as well as practical and operational solutions, as the building features advanced lighting options and highly efficient heating and ventilation systems in rationalizing energy consumption.
