ABU DHABI, 11th July, 2020 (WAM) — The Department of Municipalities and Transport announced the submission of a prototype for a project to build “restrooms for delivery drivers”, which will be initially implemented in the capital, Abu Dhabi, on the E25 Road, on a trial basis, next September.
The launch of this initiative comes in cooperation with government agencies and a number of private sector and non-profit institutions, as part of the department’s efforts to improve the general appearance of Abu Dhabi city, enhance the quality of life and well-being in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi, and enhance the emirate’s position as a preferred global destination for living, working and investing.
The project aims to contribute to providing a suitable work environment for delivery drivers, by allocating safe spaces, shaded waiting areas, and comfortable seating, equipped with air conditioning and drinking water taps, which helps them withstand the difficult working conditions during the hot weather in the summer.
His Excellency Hamad Al-Mutawa, Executive Director of the Planning and Infrastructure Sector at the Department of Municipalities and Transport, said: “The idea of this project reflects the department’s commitment to enhancing the aesthetic appearance of Abu Dhabi city, and improving the quality of life and well-being of the emirate’s community. The project aims to provide a suitable and stimulating work environment for delivery drivers from By providing safe spaces, shaded waiting areas equipped with comfortable seats, air conditioning and drinking water facilities.
He pointed out that the project came after surveying the opinions of those concerned to identify the most important issues and challenges they face while performing their work, which relate to ways to improve the procedures and working conditions of delivery drivers in Abu Dhabi city, while the project will be implemented experimentally on (E25) Street because it is one of the hot spots. It is full of restaurants and cafes that drivers need to reach on an ongoing basis. These restrooms will also be built in the future so that they are easy to produce and install and can accommodate (10-15) people.
The project offers many advantages, including ensuring the security and safety of delivery drivers, providing bike parking spaces close to restaurants and cafes, finding a solution to the problem of bikes being on pedestrian paths, thus preventing them from being subjected to traffic violations, in addition to solving the problem of delay in delivering orders. the food.
On the other hand, these spaces can be invested in generating financial resources by using them as places to display advertisements and promotional resources, in addition to their role in improving the general appearance of the city and strengthening its position as a smart city in the region.
