Abu Dhabi Department of Culture and Tourism Designates 60 Buildings as Modern Heritage Sites

ABU DHABI: 60 ancient buildings have been selected as modern heritage sites in a bid to preserve the emirate’s cultural and heritage heritage. It includes buildings such as Abu Dhabi Bus Terminal and Taxi Stand, Al Manhal Palace, Zayed Bin Sultan The Second Mosque and The National Theatre. The Abu Dhabi Department of Culture and Tourism (DCT) aims to preserve Abu Dhabi’s cultural landmarks for future generations.

A decision was taken to maintain the buildings as heritage sites considering their architectural, historical and social significance. The move is part of DCT’s ongoing efforts to preserve the city’s heritage.

The Abu Dhabi DCT said the buildings now topped with stone plaques are an integral part of the emirate’s culture. Chairman Mohammed Khalifa Al Mubarak said.

Modern heritage conservation initiatives were initiated to preserve and celebrate the city’s historically important landmarks. It is imperative to preserve such buildings to narrate the journey between the past and the future. The authorities have also stated that necessary steps will be taken to maintain these seasonally.
