Abu Dhabi Arabic Language Center’s ‘Narrative of Gold’ Award Nominations Close with Global Participation

ABU DHABI, October 10 / WAM / The Abu Dhabi Arabic Language Center has closed nominations for the first session of the “Narrative of Gold” award, which it launched to honor narrators of biographies, literature, and popular narratives locally and in the Arab world, and to highlight their most prominent works that have formed milestones in the cultural sector locally and globally.

The nomination stage witnessed a wide demand for participation from various countries of the world and all branches of the award, which received more than 983 nomination requests from 22 countries around the world, which confirms the importance of the award in creating a distinctive creative movement in the field of narrative.

His Excellency Abdullah Majid Al Ali, Chairman of the Supreme Committee for the “Gold Narrative” Award and Director General of the National Archives and Library, confirmed: The stage of receiving nominations for the “Gold Narrative” Award demonstrated the exceptional importance of the art of narrative in Arab and international culture, as the award witnessed an impressive turnout in quantity and quality of participation. In all its branches in its first session, and a great diversity of participating works, this heralds new generations of talented people in the various categories of this ancient art, and supports our endeavor to establish an Emirati and Arab narrative that monitors our past, our present, and our aspirations for the future. This demand also pushes us to move forward in developing the award to constitute a tributary. It vitally provides our libraries with rich works of high artistic and literary value.

The nominations report for the award in its first edition showed that the “short story” branch for unpublished narrative works had the largest number of the total works participating in the award, as the number of nominations received reached 703 works, or 71%.

The “Visual Narrative” branch received 86 works, representing 9% of the total nominations. The number of works received by the Short Story Branch for published narrative works reached 84 works, representing 9% of the total nominations.

The “Popular Narratives” branch received 45 works, representing 5%, the “Narratiators” branch received 44 works, representing 4%, and the “Emirati Narratives” branch received 21 works, representing 2% of the total nominations.

The report also showed that the most contributions came from Egypt (414 works), followed by Syria (96 works), then Morocco (84 works), then Algeria (76 works), then Iraq (69 works), then the Emirates (43 works). During the coming period, the Abu Dhabi Arabic Language Center will begin the process of sorting and reading in preparation for the judging phase of the award, the total value of all of its branches being two million UAE dirhams.

The award honors talented and creative people who monitored the history and aspects of life, popular heritage, and the path of development of the UAE over the decades, collecting and studying it locally, Arably, and internationally.
