Abu Al-Hassan to Asharq Al-Awsat: Jumblatt’s meeting with Basil did not and will not affect our alliances

Representative Hadi Abu Al-Hassan explained the background to the meeting that took place between the head of the Progressive Socialist Party, Walid Jumblatt, and the head of the Free Patriotic Movement, Representative Gebran Bassil, and what could be expected from his results, telling Al-Sharq Al-Awsat newspaper says that “the meeting took place at the request of Basil, who raised the matter a long time ago and was not available.” in the home of director of television (LBC), Pierre Al-Daher, father-in-law of Jumblatt’s daughter.

He added: “The response to the invitation came from our firm point of view, and we have always asked for it, which is dialogue, and the goal is to create a common space among the Lebanese to develop a clear vision of reform and work regulate in constitutional institutions, the first of which is the presidential election, and then find the formation of the government”, underlining that everything that has been said about A meeting of interests to approve the nominations is not correct and is not true.

In response to a question about what will come after this meeting and how it can be assessed, Abu Al-Hassan said: “It should be emphasized that the meeting did not and will not affect our alliances, but the most important thing is that it matters in the practical outcomes through the other party’s positions so that the judgment rests on them in the end”. For our part, our position is firm on the presidential electoral approach and dialogue must remain continuous with everyone until the election of a president who believes in reforms and integrates with the government and believes in Taif, and we will see on the other side how will he respond to our proposals.

And pointing to his lack of optimism about Basil’s ability to respond to these propositions, Abu Al-Hassan said: “A meeting between the (Free Patriotic) and (Democratic Gathering) blocs took place about a month ago, and it was a large and in-depth discussion, and we have said all that should be said without reservations, but we have not touched a change in the speech of the second team, as it is necessary to be positive on the ground by facilitating elections and positively addressing the government issue .

And if he raised the question of the presidency with the president of the Free Patriotic Party, Abu Al-Hassan, he said: “The discussion remained in the general framework and we did not go into names, knowing that Bassil knows our position, and knows that the our candidate today is the representative Michel Moawad, whom we will not leave, and we are open.” At the same time, dialogue with others to find a consensual person who meets the aspirations of the Lebanese people, in coordination with Moawad.
