Absolute heat records were broken, all months combined, this Saturday afternoon, for this new day of heat wave. It had never been so hot in Biarritz (Pyrénées-Orientales), with 42.9°C, beating the previous record for the 2003 heat wave by more than 2 degrees (40.6°C on August 4, 2003).
Absolute record also beaten in Saint-Agnant (Charente-Maritime), near Rochefort, with 40.6°C (against 40.1°C on August 4, 2003), just like in Tarbes (Hautes-Pyrénées), with 39, 2°C (beating the 39°C of August 13, 2003).

Peaks over 43°C
In total, more than 150 French cities broke their monthly heat record for the month of June, after an already scorching day on Friday, when 70 cities had broken their record. Some Météo-France stations even have the luxury of breaking their monthly heat record for the second consecutive day, such as Niort (Deux-Sèvres), with 40.1°C, or Rennes (Ille-et-Vilaine), with 37.9°C.

In the collection of broken records: it had never been so hot in June in Bordeaux (Gironde), with 40.5°C, in Nantes (Loire-Atlantique), with 39.1°C, in Orléans (Loiret), with 37.9°C, in Troyes (Aube), with 38.4°C, or even in Besançon (Doubs), with 36.6°C.
Météo France indicates that the peak intensity of this heat wave has been reached, with values having locally exceeded 43°C in the South-West: 43.2°C in Belin-Béliet (Gironde), 43.4°C in Pissos (Landes).

Some western regions are already experiencing a first cooling this Saturday evening, with the arrival of cooler ocean air. In Biarritz, a gust of wind (a sudden passage of the wind to the West) caused the temperature to drop to 23°C around 5:20 p.m., i.e. a drop of 20 degrees in barely 30 minutes.
