Abroad: man in Mallorca deliberately spread coronavirus, more countries restrict travel to India

  • On the island of Mallorca A man was arrested who was alleged to have deliberately spread the corona virus in January. Spanish police announced on Saturday that the 40-year-old man is suspected of deliberately inflicting physical harm on 22 people. Despite his symptoms – a fever of over 40 degrees and sneezing – he is said to have been at work in the city of Manacor and refused to go home when his boss asked for it. After he had a PCR test performed, he did not wait for the results at home. Instead, he went back to work and then to a gym. He is charged with directly lighting eight people in those two locations. Fourteen others were infected indirectly. In a statement, the police state that the man had even threatened: “I’m going to infect you all with the corona virus.”
  • Iran has halted air traffic to and from India and Pakistan. International news agencies report this on the basis of IRNA, the state press agency. The civil aviation organization is blocking flights due to the dramatic increase in the number of corona cases in those two countries. The decision was taken in consultation with the Iranian Ministry of Health and will take effect from midnight on Saturday. The United Arab Emirates and Oman had previously implemented the same measure. Travelers from India may only enter the United Kingdom if they are British or residing in the UK.
  • Also Germany is going to severely restrict travel traffic from India, German Health Minister Jens Spahn has said. This is necessary according to him “So as not to jeopardize our vaccination campaign”. As of Monday, India will be considered a ‘virus variant area’ for the German government.
