Aboutaleb ‘deeply sad’ about behavior of partying students | Inland

“I’m not going to use expletives, but I’m deeply sad about it. They have misbehaved ”, he said Monday morning at the presentation of the Senior Games, a project to get Rotterdam’s elderly people moving.

The police were pelted with rubbish and other rubbish during a party in a Rotterdam student house on Saturday evening. A few dozen partygoers on the Oostzeedijk Beneden in Kralingen threw the mess down from a window. Inside it was a great chaos. The party was ended with ‘appropriate violence’, police report. Most of the partygoers were “dead drunk” and had no intention of leaving.

After the pelting, the police saw a group of about twenty students running out of the building at the rear. Additional agents were then called in. “Ultimately, it turned out that there were still 36 men and women inside,” a spokesperson told Hart van Nederland. They have received an official report. “Inside it was really a terrible mess and everywhere were open bottles and cans of alcohol. Almost everyone was very drunk. ”

The partygoers hid in every conceivable place in the building: in the shower, in the toilet or simply in bed. “These ‘students’ seem to care less about the urgency that the fight against the pandemic demands of everyone,” said the spokesman. “Appropriate force was used by my colleagues to get the students out of the building. They have all been fined. ”

Compliments

Outside it also became restless in the course of the evening, but according to the police, local residents complimented the behavior of the officers.

Aboutaleb held intensive consultations with student associations last week to tackle the behavior of their supporters. He even promised an amount of 10,000 euros to come up with the best idea to make students aware of the importance of the corona measures.

‘The intelligent part of society’

It is precisely the district where the Rotterdam mayor himself lives, Kralingen, that things went wrong on Saturday evening. “How am I supposed to address the intelligent part of society?” He wondered desperately on Monday morning. “Especially in Rotterdam, the corona figures among young people are peaking enormously. 36 prints (fines) have been handed out, but we are not doing it for that. No the behavior of my ‘back neighbors’ can be called sad. ”

For Aboutaleb, the behavior of students is no reason to come up with extra measures. He is concerned about the increasing trend in his city. “But I hope that the current measures, which came into effect last Sunday at 6 p.m., will not require even stricter measures. Any tougher measures will affect the economy of Rotterdam. ”
