Head of Institute Associate Professor Dr. Michaela Sohn-Kronthaler
Michaela Sohn-Kronthaler studied Catholic theology, independent religious education and Christian philosophy in Graz and Innsbruck. In 1995 she was the first Catholic theologian in Austria under the auspices of the president She received her doctorate and in 2001 became the first Catholic theologian in Austria to receive her habilitation in the field of church history.
Since 2002 she has been head of the Institute for Church History and Contemporary Church History at the Catholic Theological Faculty of the University of Graz. Since 2021 she has been chairwoman of the Association of Professors of Church History in Austria, and since 2023 she has been a member of the jury and the scientific advisory board for the Austrian State Prize for Historical Sciences.
Michaela Sohn-Kronthaler heads the research project for the edition of the diaries of Federal Chancellor Prelate Dr. Ignaz Seipel (1876–1932) as well as the Historical Commission for the process for the beatification of Sr. Leopoldine Josephine Brandis FDC (1815–1900).
