GIMA started in 2005 as a model project of the Ministry of Urban Development in the research program “Experimental Housing and Urban Development” (ExWoSt). In 2007 it established itself as an economically independent service cooperative.

33 socially oriented housing companies
GIMA München eG (Genossenschaftliche Immobilienagentur München eG) is an association of currently 33 housing companies in Munich. Our member companies are cooperatives or have their roots in the non-profit sector.
GIMA München eG was founded in 2007 out of the conviction that the takeover of apartment buildings by existing or newly founded cooperatives is an optimal way to preserve and expand affordable living space and intact house communities.
Since then we have been working on bringing together owners who are interested in selling and housing associations interested in acquiring them. The goals are optimal future solutions for home owners and the long-term preservation of affordable rental housing in Munich and the surrounding area.
In addition, our member companies are increasingly committed to creating affordable housing.
