About those who will shape Latvia in the future – Ivars Seleckas film “Continuation. grow”

The documentary “Continuation” tells about five children who start school. Each main character has a personality: the Kārļas family has strong roots in the country of Latvia, Gļeb’s grandparents immigrated to Latvia in the Soviet years, Zane’s family are first-generation residents of the village, a family moved Anastasia to the country from the city, and Anete lives with her grandmother because her mother works in England.

In 2024, Armands Začs joins Ivars Selecki as director. In the film “Continuation. Tandem “Growing up” returned to the characters of the first film to focus on children who are already halfway to adult life, starting their studies in the 8th grade. It true – some have grown up a lot in those years, while others still live in their youth. Someone has already experienced both the first love and the pain of divorce Others have already found a passion still looking out for themselves.

The documentaries are modeled on the British documentary series “Up” (1964-2019, dir. Paul Almond, Michael Epted). That is, the filmmakers return to the main characters every seven years to document their lives since the last filming. The goal is unique documentation of how the country’s situation shapes children and their future, as well as looking at the country’s future through the eyes of a child.
