About the PREMIERE “SPIDER WEDDING” or … why can’t “Sarmacytis” speak dzuki?

Very soon, you will see the play-concert for children “Voro wedding (Voro veseilia)” (directed by Andra Kavaliauskaitė) on the stage of the Alytus City Theater. Really yes, not only a wedding, but a festive one too, not a mistake, but an attempt to remind you how important it is to nurture and not sarmatytis own words

Electro-folk performance-concert for the family “Voro wedding (Voro veseilia)” based on the poem of the same name by Justin Marcinkevičius is created by the director Andra Kavaliauskaitė, who is well known to the people of Aly. It is true that the director herself is not a bitch.

The Spider’s Wedding”, according to the director, will have its own special color, as the text is translated into the Dzuk dialect. and all this will be told through musical language, electronica and folklore, taming what sometimes seems old.

I am proud that The Spider’s Wedding has agreed to be translated into the Dzuk dialect of this town, as I say, property and treasure of the Dzuk dialect Svetlana Žadeikienė. I look at this woman, I listen and I am constantly thankful that she exists. Only thanks to her, the work has its own tone, sound and architecture. Only thanks to it, we can learn not to lie about the dialect, but, first of all, learn to feel it (let’s not forget that the team includes Lowlanders and Highlanders, not only Dzuks). And that dialect is so beautiful!”, – says the director.

S. Žadeikienė smiles as she remembers the beginning of the creative path of the play-concert. “When Andra called and told me about her idea that she wanted to translate the entire text into the Dzuk dialect, I was surprised. The revival of the Dzuk dialect comes from the theater, I really didn’t expect it, but I’m very happy and I’m looking forward to the premiere. We have to be it is an honor to speak Dzukish, not Sarmatian“, – says S. Žadeikienė, who not only nurtures dzūkiness, but also teaches the younger generation.

I am glad that the director is contributing to the revival of the dzukish dialect. There are only ten rules in Dzūki language, but unfortunately, we don’t have the desire to learn them. And if it happens… in two hundred years, no one will know that the Dzūki lived here, that they had their own speech, folk songs, which are over two thousand years old, no one will know that there were šilas, groves, no one will know that the capital of Dzūkija was here . That’s why today is a celebration for me, that we will preserve the Dzūki dialect”, – as Svetlana always says with a smile.

The conversation, it seems, could go on for hours, listen and understand, but as the dzūka herself says, it is better to come to the performance-concert and see for yourself with your ears and eyes.

In the new interpretation of J. Marcinkevičius’s poem “Voro vestuvės”, the creative team of the performance-concert pays great attention to the harmony (synthesis) of contemporary music and folklore. Songs are created to convey the workwhich unites the entire story into a story – a musical allegory that highlights our own flaws and invites us to look together at where greed, selfishness and deception can sometimes lead. The upcoming premiere is intended for children from 6 to 9 years.
