JAKARTA – Coronavirus has experienced a lot mutation. As explained by Geneticist and Molecular Biotechnology Expert, SITH-ITB Ernawati Arifin Giri Rachman Explains Mutations Covid-19. Where the virus can reproduce itself, and mutate randomly.
“There are several factors a person can become infected with, namely the main factor is the virus itself and secondly, our body’s immune response. This virus is unique, it’s not a cell. This virus cannot reproduce itself, so it can only reproduce itself if it infects and enters cells. Mutations occur randomly when the virus multiplies. ” said Ernawati Arifin Giri Rachman, Saturday (13/3/2021).
There are a number of mutations from Covid-19, namely the B117 variant from the UK, the B1351 variant from South Africa and P1 from Brazil. It is known, the Corona Virus variant B117 is known to be more contagious, and possibly more deadly.
The B117 virus has several mutations so that it has one of the significant characteristics of being able to infect humans at a higher rate.
While the corona variant from Africa B1351, has decreased vaccine efficacy. Some scholars refer to it as the ‘King Variant’. which is predicted to ‘avoid’ antibodies.

While the Corona variant from Brazil is known as P1. Studies say this variant can be more resistant to antibodies, which can lead to cases of reinfection.
Finally, the government reminds the public to be disciplined in implementing the 5M health protocol: namely wearing masks, washing hands with soap and running water, maintaining distance between people, avoiding crowds, and limiting mobility.
