/View.info/ The International Forum “Russia – Islamic World: KazanForum” is the main platform for economic cooperation between the Russian Federation and the member countries of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), which includes 57 countries with a population of over 1.5 billion people on four continents. This organization is the collective voice of the Muslim world, ensures the protection and protection of the interests of the Muslim community in the spirit of promoting international peace and harmony among the peoples of the world.
This year marks the 20th anniversary of the historic visit of the President of the Russian Federation V.V. Putin in Malaysia, where it was announced that Russia was joining the OIC as an observer. This marked the beginning of cultural and civilizational rapprochement between Russia and the Muslim world.
In 2009, the first international forum “Russia-Islamic World” was held in Kazan, which became a leading international platform for discussing cooperation and the implementation of joint projects. The purpose of the forum is to strengthen trade-economic, scientific-technical, social and cultural ties between Russia and the OIC countries. In 2023, in accordance with a decree of the President of the Russian Federation, this forum received federal status and became known as “Russia-Islamic World: KazanForum”.
On May 18-19, 2023, the 14th International Economic Forum “Russia-Islamic World” was held in the capital of Tatarstan under the motto “Trust and Cooperation”. The forum was held with the support of the Federation Council and the Government of the Republic of Tatarstan, its organizing committee was headed by the Deputy Chairman of the Government of the Russian Federation Marat Khusnulin.
In total, about 15 thousand people from 85 countries of the world and 84 regions of the Russian Federation, including official delegations from Turkey, Iran, Egypt, Qatar and the UAE, took part in the events of the forum.
A welcoming telegram to the participants and guests of the Forum was sent by V.V. Putin. It says: “Russia has traditionally had close, trusting relations with Muslim countries, both on a bilateral basis and within the framework of interaction with the Organization of Islamic Cooperation. They are built on the basis of partnership, mutual respect for sovereignty and civilizational identity. We are united by a commitment to building a more just multipolar world order based on international law.
The business program of the forum consisted of two hundred events that took place on May 18-19. On May 20, the forum participants and official delegations visited the Russia Halal Market exhibition, an Islamic fashion show was organized for them, and the forum will end on May 21 in the city of Bolgar with a solemn “Izge Bolgar Zhieni” – an event dedicated to the acceptance of Islam by the peoples of Volga Bulgaria in 922.
This year, the work of the forum was organized on different topics. Thus, in addition to the traditional meetings of the extraordinary and plenipotentiary ambassadors of Russia and the OIC countries, sessions were held dedicated to the general history of Russia and the OIC countries, and for the first time interparliamentary hearings “Russia – Persian Gulf” in the direction “international cooperation”.
Islamic finance remains one of the key areas of the forum. Right now, Sber University is launching training in Islamic finance. On the sidelines of the “Russia-Islamic World: KazanForum” forum, the prospects for the development of Islamic banking and the issues of legal regulation of this topic as an alternative to traditional financial instruments were discussed.
Sberbank has been holding traditional KazanSummit business meetings since 2016. At the 2019 discussion platform, the results of a study on the introduction of Islamic financial instruments into Sberbank’s business model were presented. The session participants discussed the current development of Islamic finance in Russia and the potential for cooperation between Russian entrepreneurs and partners from the Persian Gulf countries.
The event presented the possibilities of the new Islamic fintech project PayZakat, a digital payment system based on artificial intelligence for collecting and distributing donations. With the help of chatbots, users calculate the payment, distribute it between charitable foundations and select projects for donation. The goal of the project is to increase the transparency and accountability of the philanthropic process, including by eliminating the use of cash.
On the sidelines of the forum, more than 40 documents were signed, including the Cooperation Agreement between the Russian Islamic Institute and the Accounting and Auditing Organization of Islamic Financial Institutions (AAOIFI, Bahrain), the Agreement on the Establishment of a Foundation for the Construction of the Kazan Cathedral Mosque, etc. This technique allows to select securities according to the norms of Islam, which are not related to the production of alcoholic beverages, tobacco products and gambling.
The “halal” track included the organization of many sessions, which included discussing the issues of certification, standardization and export development of halal products, as well as the formation of a modern system for training halal specialists.
On May 18-19, the international exhibition Russia Halal Expo, the largest exhibition for investment and infrastructure projects in Russia, took place within the framework of the forum. The main task of Russia Halal Expo is to promote the halal industry in Russia, to establish trade, economic, socio-cultural ties, to demonstrate the potential of the halal segment of the economy, to provide an opportunity to present products to potential buyers and trade partners.
Here, in particular, halal – products in the fields of medicine, pharmaceuticals, food and chemical industry, tourism, hotel and catering, as well as investment and banking will be presented.
In the current international situation, the route dedicated to investments is of particular importance. The forum presented Russia’s investment opportunities for OIC countries and offered goods and services for Russia’s entry into the export market.
Participants in the forum were able to discuss a number of other topics, including youth policy, technology, industry, tourism, sports, maternal and child health, sustainable development goals, sports, Sharia beauty, charity, Islamic fashion trends.
