An actress was missing from the Press conference of the film “About Joan”.
Isabelle Huppert, who is at this year’s Berlinale honorary bears for their life’s work gets, Corona is positive and could only be there virtually. Director Laurent Larivière, British actress Freya Mavor and Lars Eidinger presented their film “About Joan”.
It is the story of a successful publisher, played by Isabelle Huppert, who lives with a much younger writer. Joan’s dreamlike autobiography is like a web of fragmentary accounts and memories. The film celebrated its world premiere at the Berlinale.
“About Joan” is set in Ireland, France and Germany.
“A deeply European film,” as director Laurent Larivière emphasizes: “We found most of the money in Europe, meaning in Dublin, in Germany and in the European system. So I’m very happy to be presenting it here at the Berlinale, a European one Festival, in an important European capital, it all makes sense, it’s very coherent. And of course there are German, Irish, English and French actors.”
Lars Eidinger, actor: “I’m very happy to work internationally. I grew up in Berlin and never left Berlin, and that’s how I got to know so many people around the world. Last year I went to Hollywood for the first time with Noah Baumbach filmed, the film with Adam Driver and Greta Gerwich will be out on Netflix at the end of the year. I feel very privileged and very happy. And I realized that I’m really francophile, I love French cinema, I love the French and I think the French have the best sense of humor!”
“About Joan” alternates between comedic and dramatic moments – with a script that is perfectly tailored to the actors and actresses.
The festival lasts until Sunday for the public. However, the Golden Bear will be awarded this Wednesday by the international jury headed by M. Night Shyamalan, who will choose from the 18 films in the competition.
