about half of Manhattan employers delay return to work due to delta variance – Telemundo New York (47)

NEW YORK – Nearly half of Manhattan office employers have delayed their employees’ return-to-work schedules due to the delta variant of COVID-19, and fewer than half of their employees will return to work this month, according to a poll.

The Association for the City of New York surveyed employers August 9-20 about their plans for approximately 1 million office workers in Manhattan. About 44 percent of employers said they had delayed return plans due to the highly contagious variant, although the length of the delay varied widely.

About 41% of those office workers are expected to return by the end of September, a drop of more than 20 points from a previous survey by the nonprofit group.

By the end of January, employers expect 76% of their Manhattan office workers to return to the office. The vast majority of them will be on a hybrid schedule with some remote days; only 26% of employers told the Association that their employees would have to return full time.

Nearly three in five said they would require employee vaccinations; about half said they would require the use of the mask in the office.
