Hitekno.com – Elon Musk through startup Neuralink which he founded is developing technology chip which is claimed to have the potential to cure neurological diseases such as Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s.
Which later the Neuralink chip will be implanted in the brain, for various problems such as the disease.
On the other hand, it also proposes the use of technology to combine humans with computers.
This move would provide most people with superhuman intelligence that links the brain to the cloud, where memories can be stored, thoughts can be exchanged, and experiences can be obtained.
While the implanted chip’s capabilities may sound limitless, it has a huge responsibility for Elon Musk and the company, particularly privacy.
“If widespread use becomes linking humans to the cloud, not as therapy, and combining humans with AI, the economic model is to sell our data, “said Dr. Susan Schneider, founding director of the Center for the Future Mind.
Neuralink has previously caught the eye after using neurons in pigs and a recent result in a monkey capable of playing video games with its mind.
While it looks awesome, many experts aren’t sure where Elon Musk’s company’s Neuralink chip is going.
According to Anna Wexler, assistant professor in the Department of Medical Ethics and Health Policy, University of Pennsylvania, Neuralink has not been clear about their purpose for the devices.
“In my opinion, they aim to give the user control over the device, such as the ability to move the cursor on the screen,“he said.
In Musk’s tweet, the billionaire claimed that a newer version of the technology could be used to help people with disabilities walk again.
Although brain chips are showing promising results in the medical field, many experts see them as a way to expand human intelligence and as a weapon against AI.
“If we upload our thoughts to the cloud, what happens if we can no longer afford to pay for maintenance? It is a challenge how we keep our thoughts private and ownership of our own thoughts, “added Schneider, quoted from the Daily Mail, Friday (23/4/2021).
Schneider also highlighted Facebook’s reach into the brain chip, saying that this technology company has access to the minds of users who are quite alarming.
