About 600 Andalusians, 592, have died as a result of the coronavirus despite having with the complete vaccination schedule, data that corresponds to September 15, 2021, as revealed by the Ministry of Health and Families.

The information is signed by the counselor Jesus Aguirre in a response to a written question from the non-attached deputy María Isabel Mora, published last week in the Official Gazette of the Andalusian Parliament (BOPA).

On September 15, the Andalusian Government notified the death of 12 people while the total number of deaths accumulated on that day was 11,091. Andalusia currently registers 11,746 deaths.

Aguirre reports that “since the Covid vaccination plan was launched in Andalusia until 09/15/2021 592 cases of Covid have died with a complete pattern of vaccination, which represents 10.8% of all deaths in that period”, as well as breaking down the 592 deaths according to their sex, to indicate that 315 are men and 277 are women.

Mortality

The Minister of Health makes it clear in his response that “mortality from Covid is closely related to age, so that the oldest age groups are those with the highest mortality”, even though the information provided to the deputy María Isabel Mora does not indicate the age of the patients who died with the complete vaccination.

“Exists ample scientific evidence that older people are more at risk of morbidity, hospital admissions and death from Covid-19, a situation that is aggravated if these people are institutionalized”, continues Aguirre to trace the profile of the fully vaccinated patient and despite this with the potential to be a victim of the coronavirus.

The Minister of Health transfers that “aging causes a deterioration of the immune system or immunosenescence”, so that old age translates into a decrease in “all the elements of the immune response, as well as the development of immunological memory associated with vaccination”, from which it can be deduced that “the effectiveness of the vaccine is lower in older people and have a shorter duration”.

Aguirre, who dates his response to October 11 to give data from September 15, points out to the parliamentarian that in the face of this scientific evidence “we have already started to put the third dose of the vaccine in nursing homes”. However, the Minister of Health assures that with “the data available to date suggest that the effectiveness of vaccination is good in those over 65 years of age” for the objective of “preventing serious illness and death.

According to the data released by the Andalusian Government on September 15, Andalusia administered 12,572,884 doses that day and 6,502,979 Andalusians then had the complete vaccination schedule, while 6,762,851 had at least one dose. On September 15, according to data from the Board, 76.8% of the population had the complete vaccination schedule and 87.2% of those over 12 years of age.
