About 50 young men attacked the church in Vienna, shouting Allah akbar!

Austrian police are investigating an attack on a church in Vienna’s Favoriten district, which is apparently the fault of a group of about 50 young people of Turkish descent.

The portal drew attention to the case kurier.at. The young men stormed the church with the shouts of Allah akbar (God is great) on Thursday. They dug up benches and a confessional. The pastor called the police, but the attackers managed to escape. Their rampage was captured by cameras.

On the same day, a 21-year-old man from Tunisia attacked the French city of Nice near the basilica. He murdered three people, cut off the head of a woman. Another man in Avignon threatened passers-by with a knife, and the police shot him. Both also shouted to Allah akbar.

Muslims revolt over cartoons of the Prophet Muhammad that appear in French satirical magazines. Islam forbids its depiction. The cartoons are considered to be the motive for the last terrorist attacks in France, and at the beginning of October, an 18-year-old Chechen beheaded a teacher who was lecturing on freedom of speech. The Austrian criminal believes that they could also have been the motive for the destruction of the church.

The incident has already been condemned by Chancellor Sebastian Kurz. “All Christians must be able to practice their faith freely and safely in Austria. We will definitely continue to fight against political Islam and we will not hide behind false tolerance. We thank all the police officers for their commitment,” he wrote on Twitter.

Viennese police believe that the same group that attacked the church gathered on Reumannplatz on Saturday morning. A fight broke out there, some people had pyrotechnics with them and shouted Islamist slogans. Police have identified about 10 people from Turkey, and the investigation will continue.
