As of March 1 this year, 5,426 people living with HIV lived in the Belarusian capital. Writes about it “Minsk-News” with reference to the press service of the Minsk City Center for Hygiene and Epidemiology.
In January-February 2023, 64 new cases of HIV infection were detected. For 2022, this figure is 472 cases.
It is noted that in Minsk most often the infection was transmitted sexually – 65.6%. In second place (31.3%) is the parenteral non-medical route of transmission through injecting drugs.
The largest number of new cases of HIV infection was registered between the ages of 30 and 54 (73.4%).
Over the past 10 years, the bulk of new HIV carriers in Minsk have been identified among people aged 25 to 49.
