Washington, November 17 More than 32 million people have received at least one booster dose of the covid-19 vaccine in the United States in the past two months, in preparation for the country’s holiday season, the White House told EFE on Thursday. .
“The (vaccination) campaign has been going on for a couple of months and we’ve made a lot of progress,” said Cameron Webb, Joe Biden’s administration adviser on health policy.
Last week, the expert explained, the United States saw the largest number of booster doses administered since January 2022, showing that Americans are preparing for a time when domestic travel will increase.
The flow of travelers both by land and by air is expected to increase during Thanksgiving next week compared to 2021, according to US media, with an expectation of more than 54 million people moving around the world.
“We also have the experience from the last few years of knowing that getting vaccinated makes a difference and I think people are realizing that now is a good time to do it,” Webb said.
The expert points out that, in addition to immunization, the White House is also promoting rapid covid tests as a tool to prevent contagion in the coming weeks.
“Having these tests at home is an important way to protect grandparents, uncles and loved ones,” the official stressed.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) approved Novavax’s booster dose in October, in addition to those already approved by Pfizer-BioTech and Moderna; the latter offer protection against Omicron variants BA.4 and BA.5.
