Disappointed with the defeat in difficult conditions that did not suit her at all, but at the same time satisfied with the excellently played tournament. This is how tennis player Petra Kvitová leaves Paris, newly as a two-time semifinalist Roland Garros.
The dream of the fourth grand slam final of his career is over. The Czech tennis player lost to the American Sofia Keninová 4: 6, 5: 7 in the semifinals of the French Open. The match was marked by the wind, which made life uncomfortable for both tennis players.
Kvitová, however, was more affected by difficult conditions. “They were quite abnormal, I have to say. Crazy wind, it was spinning around. It was very difficult to be honest today. It wasn’t that for my game,” said Kvitová.
But she did not want to reduce the remarkable performance of the opponent. The native of Moscow celebrated a well-deserved success with her seemingly frantic, yet clever and effective, energetic concept.
“She played great. She was better on the court. I tried to fight for every shift, stay in the match and wait for the opportunity. But when the slightest chance came, Sofia immediately took it from me,” the 30-year-old player described the battle with a nine-year-younger star add your second grand slam title this year on Saturday.
Traces of frustration were visible on Kvitová at crucial moments. That when Kenin always played the best possible variant, she hit the lines, everything worked out for her.
She erased an incredible ten breakballs from the total of twelve Czech players. She used four chances out of five. The difference in success rate of 80 percent against 17 was striking.
“She moved very well and that was the main key in my opinion. She deserved 100% to win. She was simply better,” Kvitová did not doubt.
Even so, she stressed that she would leave the French capital with a good feeling. “Playing the semifinals here is a great performance for me. Anyway. I’m happy and grateful. Sure, it’s a painful defeat and that’s how it’s supposed to be, but I’m happy with how the tournament went and how I managed it even in the tough conditions,” said the two-time Wimbledon winner.
Kvitová will be very curious about the finals between nineteen-year-old Polish Iga Swiatek and two-year-old Kenin. She slightly favors the American, even though the Polish tennis player performs phenomenally. And he promises to try to keep up with the young wolves.
“I’m ready to challenge them. I don’t want to give it to them for free, that’s for sure. Probably none of us,” she laughed. “I’m not finishing my career yet, so we’ll see. You have me back next year,” Kvitova assured me.
