Recently, savers have received little or no interest. In some cases, they even had to pay interest. The banks previously announced that they would stop with negative interest rates, but in recent days they have also decided to start paying interest on savings again.
This is partly due to the numerous increases in interest rates by the European Central Bank (ECB). This supervisory bank recently raised interest rates several times for commercial banks, such as ABN AMRO. The supervisor does this in the hope that those banks in turn will also raise interest rates for their customers, for example for savers.
Done last week Rabobank already known to do so. This became clear on Monday too ING and ABN AMRO again give their customers some interest. The increase will take effect from 1 December in all three banks.
