Abkhazia introduces fines for tourists appearing in public places in improper attire

On June 8, the Parliament of Abkhazia introduced amendments to the Code of Administrative Offenses in the second final reading.

For appearing on the streets, squares, parks with a naked torso or in a bathing suit, tourists face a fine of 100 minimum wages (6 thousand rubles).

“The presence of a large number of vacationers and tourists significantly replenishes our budget, but we must not forget about our national mentality, about educating our youth in the spirit of apsuara. Many who are on vacation with us believe that if they are in a resort, then it is not necessary to pay attention to their appearance, and they allow themselves to walk in swimsuits not only on the beaches or in places designated for swimming, but also in public places, and men they just walk around in shorts, bare-chested. All this causes indignation not only of the older generation, but also of young people from the local population, since in our society it is not customary to be dressed in this way in public places,” – the explanatory note to the bill says.

The ban on appearing in public places in an improper form also applies to local residents.

The law will come into force on 1 August. Before that, information stands warning of punishment will be prepared in the republic.
