Internationally wanted
The ex-husband is accused of sexual assault, violence and threats against Abida Raja.
The man has been internationally wanted since before the New Year when he did not appear in the trial against him in the Oslo district court.
Now he is caught.
– I have been informed that he has been arrested in Great Britain today, as a result of the international wanted for him, says state attorney Alvar Randa to NRK.
The VG who mentioned the matter first.
– The case will be rescheduled, but first we have to get him home, says Randa.
Randa is not surprised that her ex-husband has been found in the UK.
– That is where we have been looking for him, adds the public prosecutor.
Before this can happen, the request for extradition must be processed in a British court.
The ex-husband has always maintained that he is innocent. To NRK, Javeed Hussain Shaah, the ex-husband’s lawyer, says that he has not been able to speak to his client yet.
– I expect that the handover will take place quite quickly, says Hussain Shah.
He says that at a later stage they will give an answer as to why the ex-husband did not appear in court.
– Looking forward to the start of the trial
The case has a penalty of 21 years. The Oslo district court had set aside four weeks for the trial, which was postponed indefinitely.
To VG, Raja has described it as extremely stressful to prepare for a trial, three years after the report, without knowing whether it will come to fruition.
– It is a great relief that he has been arrested and we look forward to the trial finally starting, says Raja’s legal counsel Hege Salomon to NRK.
