When the case was heard on Wednesday morning, the prosecution demanded that the maximum punishment be ensured for the accused. The court summoned Thomas Kottur and Sister Sefi and spoke. Thomas Kottur, who pleaded not guilty, told the court that he was suffering from cancer, was on medication and had only a pension.
Sefi, who has pleaded not guilty, told the court that he was ill and was using drugs, including insulin. He added that he was the only dependent on the house and had no other source of income other than the pension amount. Fifteen minutes later, the court reconvened and announced the sentence. After completing the court proceedings, Thomas Kottur was transferred to the Central Jail and Sefi to the Attakulangara Women’s Jail.
