“God gave stones all over Bulgaria, there is no need for people to worry,” said Prime Minister Borisov yesterday on the occasion of the civil unrest against the possible opening of a quarry near the village of Lozen. With a small edit: “God gave stones throughout Bulgaria, so that we can aim at the political peaks” – his statement would perfectly personify the spectacle unfolding at the heights of power.
Surprisingly, the fourth wheel fell out of the government car – ABV. For no particular reason, on the command of Georgi Parvanov, the party withdrew Deputy Prime Minister Kalfin, the deputy ministers and the regional governor. The former president is a master of the political thriller and set the intrigue in motion at a key moment – the alphabet-loving Kornelia Ninova has just taken the helm of the BSP, GERB has sided with the patriots over the unsuccessfully revised Election Code, the campaign for the presidential elections is entering its active phase, and what’s more is to come and ABV Congress.
Hours after Parvanov and Ninova gathered at the Victory Day parade, decorated with St. George’s ribbons, the ABV broke with the right-wing coalition, and the BSP announced a course to “overthrow the anti-people government”.
From the subsequent statements of the deputy chairman of GERB Tsvetan Tsvetanov it appears that

According to him, an attempt is being made to destabilize under the Kremlin’s dictation, the immediate cause of which is the search for oil and gas in the Black Sea and the emerging prospect of Bulgaria achieving energy independence. This interpretation is logical and easy to accept in right-wing circles, although it is not supported by solid evidence.
Outside of geopolitical combinations, Parvanov’s bold move opens up a new strategic agenda for him. Lately, the insistence of Ivaylo Kalfin for the presidential candidate of the United Left has intensified. Undoubtedly, there are few quality and unblemished contenders in the red ranks and his name stands out in all discussions. The big difficulty is how to bring the Deputy Prime Minister to the attention of the BSP, torn by internal wars and which has not even constructed its Executive Bureau. The new National Council is divided in half between the people of Ninova and Mikov, and the engagement with the ABV will meet with fierce resistance from the leftist faction, which is already polishing the weapon to fight the traitors.
For GERB, the sudden withdrawal of the Abbeyites can serve as a red light that the full mandate becomes impossible, without the immediate threat of the cabinet falling. Until now, Borissov’s deputies were often forced to do without the support of the ABV, and to look for sometimes unexpected combinations to push through their bills. The problem is that the processes of swarming the parliamentary majority, which began with the somersault mortal of Radan Kanev and DSB, are intensifying. At one point, the eight groups in the parliament began to interfere, and even the most careful observer cannot catch their sharp turns and thematic coalitions. The banks’ market-making has already overtaken all the theaters of the absurd known to us from previous parliaments, which means that

With their sharp move, ABV may be feeding illusions that they will immediately return to the left lane, eating onions, smelling onions, but they may encounter unexpected obstacles. After the last pirouette, Parvanov can no longer be considered a reliable and predictable partner. The following meraclies for a coalition will be aware that at any moment ABV without any particular reason / and it is not excluded also under someone else’s dictation / can move anyone without any particular remorse. This is an extremely bad sign for those seeking partnership with them in the BSP, who at some point may also find themselves taken away by the “great combiners”. Politics is indeed a dirty and risky game, but the voters also quickly fall out of love with the parties that pursue their narrow interest without caring about the direct defeats on the state.
