Abel Ferreira, coach of Palmeiras, in the game against São Paulo, for Paulista Image: Jhony Inacio/Ag. state
The Campeonato Paulista regulations are clear in stating that São Paulo made a mistake by not allowing Abel Ferreira to give his press conference in the Morumbis interview room after the 1-1 draw with Palmeiras this Sunday (3). Punishment is applicable, but the tendency is for it to be just an administrative sanction.
On page 18, the text states the following: “If there is only one room or press space available in the stadium, the visiting team’s interview will be carried out and, subsequently, the home team’s interview will be held, unless prior agreement is reached between the clubs, which must be informed to the São Paulo Football Federation at least 24 hours in advance of matches taking place”.
Furthermore, on that same page, the text says that it is the client’s obligation to provide space and structure for the interviews. Palmeiras issued a statement stating that it was prohibited from giving a press conference in the stadium’s official room, when it was already preparing the venue’s big screen, including the brand of its sponsors. The FPF, in turn, was not informed about any agreement between the clubs.
