Police Prosecutor Anja Mikkelsen Indbjør confirms to Dagbladet that three Finnmark men have been charged with the murder of the missing Abdullahi Dayib Mohamud.
Mohamud, 23, has been missing for two years after his family reported him missing on January 6 last year. The 23-year-old’s last confirmed sighting was on December 18, 2020.
Police lawyer Indbjør says police arrested three men on Thursday and both searches and seizures were carried out. Telephones and other electronic equipment have been seized and will now be examined by specialists.
– The three defendants were released after questioning, but the charge was confirmed, Indbjør tells Dagbladet.
He won’t provide details
In a Press release the police write that the three defendants did not admit to having anything to do with the disappearance during questioning.
– We believe that there are reasonable grounds for suspicion and have obtained a court order to search the defendants’ homes. Since Abdullahi disappeared, there has been an investigation into whether the disappearance is due to a criminal act, the press release said.
For the sake of the investigation, the police won’t go into what investigative steps it took or on what basis it has now charged three people, but believe there are good reasons to suspect they had something to do with the disappearance.
Defendant: – Unaware of the charge
The Finnmark police would not say anything about what relationship the three Finnmarks have with the missing 23-year-old.
– We have not found the missing person and we still want advice from the public, concludes the police prosecutor.
Rogstad Law Firm defense attorney Barbro Paulsen is representing one of the three defendants. He says the following about his client’s reaction to the accusation:
– He doesn’t understand the allegations, but is willing to assist the police with any information he has.
Paulsen says he is in constant contact with his client and that he is fine.
About the customer: – In shock
Defense attorney for one of the other defendants, Benny Solheim, says his client reacted strongly to the accusation.
– He was in complete shock when he learned that he was accused, Solheim tells Dagbladet.
His client, who is said to be in his early 30s and from Hammerfest, only discovered the allegation when he was arrested at 11am yesterday.
– He doesn’t understand absolutely everything, says Solheim and continues:
– She doesn’t know the boy, she hasn’t met him or spoken to him. She doesn’t understand how he could have been drawn into this.
– What do you know about how he was dragged into it?
– He received information about how his name got to the police, Solheim replies.
