Abdala Vaccine in Chihuahua: Safety, Efficacy, and Quality Demonstrated with the Application of 37,000 Doses

The application of almost 37,000 doses of the Abdala vaccine in Chihuahua has demonstrated the safety, efficacy and quality of the biological developed in Cuba for booster coverage and first doses, even beyond absurd disinformation campaigns that have been able to affect families Chihuahuans about the advisability of getting vaccinated.

The Abdala vaccine arrived in our state last December and is administered in 237 medical units in 65 municipalities in a context where 94 percent of the Chihuahuan population already has a vaccine against Covid-19.

But having this high percentage of the population vaccinated and that the World Health Organization (WHO) declared on May 5 that the public health emergency that began on January 30, 2020 has ceased to exist, does not mean that the virus He disappeared.

Abdala was developed by the Center for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology (CIGB) of Cuba, an institution created in 1986 and recognized nationally and internationally for its work in the field of genetic engineering and biotechnology, and is one of the two in the world that has carried out studies in the population and not only in laboratories.

The myths associated with Cuba have been disappearing as vaccination progresses in Mexico and, of course, in our state with minimal adverse results in some cases.

Currently, in the state of Chihuahua, 36,791 doses have been applied in a new strategy outside of the massive concentrations that the health emergency demanded at the time; Of these, 4,114 were administered as first doses, 1,630 as second doses, and 31,227 boosters.

Ciudad Juárez concentrates 41 percent of the Abdala vaccine applied in the entity with 15,477 doses; 1 thousand 382 as first dose, 549 as second and 13 thousand 546 reinforcements.

In Chihuahua, the operation for adults continues in 237 health units, of which three belong to the IMSS-Bienestar, 23 to the IMSS, 14 to the ISSSTE, 1 to the Military Hospital of the Ministry of National Defense (Sedena) and 196 to the They belong to the SSA.

The level of confidence is reflected in the favorable opinion recently issued by the New Molecules Committee (CMN) of the Federal Commission for Protection against Sanitary Risks (Cofepris) as part of the process to obtain authorization for emergency use issued by the Commission for Cofepris Sanitary Authorization to expand its use in boys and girls from 5 years of age.

In November 2022, a document published at the Harvard University School of Public Health states the following: “Cuba’s ability to develop vaccines against Covid-19, of its own production and immunize the majority of its citizens, should serve as a model for developing countries.” That is the pending task for a country like Mexico that seeks transformation with self-sufficiency.

From these brief lines I give a well-deserved recognition to the “Roadrunner Brigade” made up of the Secretary of National Defense (Sedena), IMSS, IMSS-Welfare, ISSSTE, Secretary of Well-being and Secretary of State Health, in charge of managing the pandemic , as well as the Chihuahuan population that has been participatory in the innumerable vaccination campaigns, positioning the state in the first places of vaccination.

And you, my dear reader, have you already been vaccinated with Abdala?
