ABC News President Kim Godwin has announced her retirement from broadcast journalism. After reflecting on her tenure, Godwin stated, “I have decided to retire from broadcast journalism.” She further mentioned that it was not an easy decision but the right one for her future and her family’s priorities.

Debra OConnell, president of News Group and Networks at Disney Entertainment, will take the helm of ABC News on an interim basis. She expressed her gratitude to Kim Godwin for her contributions to ABC News and emphasized that the team’s reputation and credibility are of utmost importance.
Kim Godwin’s Career
Kim Godwin, the first Black woman to lead a national broadcast news network, joined ABC News in 2021 after an illustrious career at CBS News as an executive and producer. However, the restructuring in February, led by Disney veteran Debra OConnell, limited Godwin’s authority within the organization.

During her tenure, Godwin faced challenges such as the suspension and firing of ‘GMA3’ co-hosts Amy Robach and TJ Holmes, as well as grumbling from staff. However, the National Association of Black Journalists has noted significant support for Godwin inside the organization and plans to hold discussions with ABC and Disney executives.
