French President Emmanuel Macron called on the Palestinian Authority to condemn the Al-Aqsa Flood operation, and at the same time drew Israel’s attention to the large human losses in Gaza, expressing Paris’s readiness to contribute to the treatment of children who were injured in the occupation’s aggression against the Strip.
In a telephone conversation on Sunday, Macron urged Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas to condemn what he called the terrorist attacks launched by Hamas on October 7th.
Macron said that “it is necessary for the Palestinian Authority and all countries of the region to unequivocally and with the greatest possible firmness condemn” Palestinian resistance operations against Israel.
Prisoner negotiations
It is noteworthy that Macron spoke on Saturday with the Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, and Egyptian President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi regarding the ongoing negotiations to release prisoners held by Hamas in Gaza.
Hamas says that all those it detains are Israelis and that it does not take into account the fact that some of them are dual nationals.
Macron stressed – on Sunday – that he was doing “everything possible to release all the hostages, especially our eight French citizens.”
In a related context, Macron informed Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu that “the number of civilian casualties is very large” in the Gaza Strip.
The French presidency said that Macron reminded Netanyahu of “the absolute necessity of distinguishing between terrorists and the population.”
Armistice and aid
On the humanitarian side, the French President announced that “wounded or sick children from Gaza who need emergency care” could “receive treatment in France” if that is “useful and necessary.” He added, “The necessary measures have been taken to receive up to 50 patients in our hospitals.”
The French ship “Dexmod” is expected to arrive in Egypt in the coming days, and will be designated to treat the most serious cases in Gaza.
Macron indicated that a new Air Force plane will transport “more than 10 tons of medical cargo at the beginning of the week” and carry “two mobile health stations, each of which can treat about 500 adult patients.”
He added, “Humanitarian aid must arrive as quickly and as safely as possible. In order for this to happen, we must reach an immediate humanitarian truce that leads to a ceasefire.”
From occupation to flood
It is noteworthy that Israel was established on occupied Arab land in 1948, and annexed Jerusalem and the West Bank in 1967. Throughout its 75 years, it has continued to kill and arrest Palestinians, expand settlement activity in the West Bank, launch military operations in Gaza, and attack Islamic and Christian sanctities in Jerusalem.
On October 7, the Izz al-Din al-Qassam Brigades – the military arm of the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) – and other Palestinian resistance factions launched Operation Al-Aqsa Flood against the Israeli occupation, and have so far killed about 1,300 Israelis.
The Palestinian resistance also captured more than 200 Israelis, and announced that it wanted to exchange them for more than 6,000 Palestinian prisoners in Israeli occupation prisons.
For its part, Israel continues its aggression against Gaza, bombing homes, schools, hospitals and mosques, which led to the martyrdom of more than 13,000 Palestinians, most of them women and children, in addition to wounding about 30,000, destroying entire neighborhoods, and displacing and starving most of the population.
