Listeners were able to vote for their favorite songs this week for the ultimate overview of Eurovision classics. The NPO Radio 2 Song Contest Top 50 can be heard on NPO Radio 2 on Friday 15 May from 6:00 PM to 10:00 PM. The presentation is hosted by Bart Arens, Wouter van der Goes and Frank van ‘t Hof.
ABBA Forever
‘Waterloo’ appears to have lost none of its power after almost half a century: ABBA won the Eurovision Song Contest in 1974 with its song, which has grown into a classic. The song also marked the international advance of this Swedish hit machine. ABBA is represented with 22 songs in the most recent edition of the NPO Radio 2 Top 2000.
Dutch glory and ‘Mr. Eurovision ‘
Second place in the Songfestival Top 50 is ‘Arcade’ by Duncan Laurence, who last year in Tel Aviv ensured that the Netherlands won the Eurovision Song Contest again after 44 years. Also the number three comes from home: ‘Calm After The Storm’ by The Common Linnets, good for a second place in 2014 during the Eurovision Song Contest in Copenhagen. The Dutch Song Contest participants Teach-In (1975) and Anouk (2013) are also represented in the top 10. In total, the Song Contest Top 50 has fourteen homegrown listings.
The Irish “Mr. Eurovision ‘Johnny Logan, who was the only artist to win the Eurovision Song Contest twice, has been listed twice in the highest regions of the Song Festival Top 50.
