Lasse Wellander, the longtime guitarist of the Swedish group ABBA, died at the age of 70, the DPA agency reported. He recorded several albums with the band and went on many tours. According to a family statement, the musician succumbed to cancer on Friday.

The band paid tribute to Wellander on their Instagram account as “a dear friend, a funny guy and an excellent guitarist”. “The creativity he brought to the studio was hugely important, as was his unshakable guitar skills on stage. We mourn his tragic and untimely death and remember his kind words, sense of humor and musical brilliance,” the Swedish band said.
