The League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC), one of the oldest Latino civil rights groups in the US, announced its support for the Kamala Harris-Tim Walls ticket, breaking precedent. So far, they have not declared their support for any candidate in the nearly one hundred year old history of the group.
LULAC leaders said they reversed that stance and endorsed the Democratic ticket out of concern that Latinos would be marginalized if Donald Trump became president. again. In the vote, the decision made after discussions within the group was unanimously approved.
Latinos can trust Harris and Walz, said former LULAC president Domingo Garcia Latinos, who make up 10% of the American electorate, usually lean toward the Democratic Party . But Trump won more Latino votes in 2020 than in 2016. Lulaca was founded by Mexican American soldiers who served in World War I.
The group’s support will also be available with the cooperation of their local committees. Especially in the battleground states of Nevada, Arizona, Georgia, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin. They have 535 councils across the country. Harris campaign manager Julie Chavez-Rodriguez said the endorsement was a great honor, but the Trump campaign accused Lulac of not communicating with Latino voters.
