Abandoned sports bag triggers police operation

Darmstadt (ots) –

A black sports bag reported by passers-by on Saturday (December 11th) caused a major police operation shortly after 11 p.m. in downtown Darmstadt. The bag was on Luisenplatz right in front of a bank. No trace of the owner. Since the contents of the bag could not be identified, a service dog handler with an explosives detection dog and other experts from the police headquarters in South Hesse were called in. Until they arrived, large parts of Luisenplatz were cordoned off and local public transport was diverted. Finally, at 12:23 a.m., all blocks could be lifted again. There were only several items of clothing in the bag. So far, there is also no evidence of the owner of the bag. The owner and witnesses are asked to report to the first police station in Darmstadt on 06151 / 969-41110. Made: EPHK René Bowitz, Police Leader on duty, Tel .: 06151 / 969.40312
