Abandoned Satellite Expected to Collide with Earth within Weeks: European Space Agency

The European Space Agency has stated that an abandoned satellite is expected to collide with Earth within weeks.

The European Space Agency added that the weight of the abandoned satellite is 1.3 tons, indicating that it has run out of fuel, according to what was reported by the British “Sky News” network, on Friday.

And this moon, which bears the name Aeolus, approaches Earth by about a kilometer per day.

However, the majority of this moon will burn up once it enters the atmosphere.

And only a small part of the debris will remain, which will fall to the surface of the planet.

It is expected that this will happen in late July or early August.

The European Space Agency says it will try to use what little fuel is left on the satellite to safely guide it to remote areas.

The satellite was launched into space 5 years ago, flying at an altitude of 320 km. Its purpose was to measure winds in the atmosphere to improve weather forecasting.

But for many reasons, this satellite is getting closer to Earth:

It ran out of fuel. gravity. solar activity.
