Just outside Dubai there is an endless open-air expanse of luxury supercars often abandoned due to problems with the United Arab Emirates Tax Office: Ferrari, Maserati, Lamborghini, Bentley, Porsche and Rolls-Royce which are then put up for auction and that anyone, anywhere in the world, can purchase for a few thousand euros. However, it doesn’t always turn out to be a bargain.

A few kilometers outside Dubai you may come across one incredible expanse of thousands of abandoned luxury supercars. Rows and rows of cars, in the most disparate conditions, worth even millions of euros left there to rot in the middle of the desert which strike a chord in the hearts of enthusiasts who have always dreamed of those models but who, given the very high cost, they could never afford it. Among the endless myriad of abandoned cars in the United Arab Emirates, in addition to Audi, Mercedes, BMW, Corvette, Lexus, Nissan, Ford, Dodge, Tesla and Jeep, there are also Ferrari, Maserati, Lamborghini, Bentley, Porsche e Rolls-Royce which, although not in perfect condition, maintain their usual charm.
We are therefore faced with a veritable cemetery of supercars with a total value of hundreds of millions of euros. It’s there though a very specific reason why in the middle of the desert bordering Dubai there is that infinite pile of luxury cars: those cars in fact were seized by the Emirate’s tax authorities or in any case abandoned by foreigners who had moved there but were then unable to maintain the lifestyle they hoped for or by local entrepreneurs who saw their businesses fail or evaded taxes.
Yes, because in the United Arab Emirates do not pay a debteven small (such as a mortgage payment or monthly rent), it means committing a crime. At that point to avoid ending up in prison the alternative is to abandon everything (including cars) and leave the Emirate. The cars they therefore end up in open-air warehouses in the desert and then, if not claimed within 15 days by the owner (who must demonstrate that he has paid the debt), be auctioned. Hence the endless expanse of abandoned cars present in the depot on the outskirts of Dubai and given that we are facing the “city of the rich” it is not at all surprising that so many of those seized or abandoned cars are luxury cars.
Lamborghini completely destroyed at auction for 1.5 million: no one wants it, but it is very famous
However, those cars can then return to the road with a new owner. In fact, the cars are placed up for auction on the EmiratesAuction.com website and anyone, anywhere in the world, can bid to try to win them. Ci you can therefore purchase a Ferrari, a Lamborghini or a Porsche for a few thousand eurosma It doesn’t mean that you always end up with a bargain. In fact, many times the supercars put up for auction have gods serious damage and therefore require substantial and very expensive repairs. And furthermore, at the purchase price, you must add the cost of transport to your country (in Italy to import a supercar by ship costs no less than 10 thousand euros) and that of registration. Not to mention the often very long delivery times: with some models being delivered to the auction winners several months after they won it.
