Abandoned Building Collapse in Malatya Causes Multiple Injuries: No Casualties Reported

Turkish Interior Minister Ali Yerli Kaya announced that there were no casualties as a result of the earthquake that struck, Thursday, the Malatya province in southern Turkey.

And he stated in a post on his account on a social networking site, “The Turkish teams continued field survey efforts in the region after the earthquake, which had a magnitude of 5.3, and its epicenter was in Yeşilyurt district in Malatya state.”

Minister Kaya confirmed that 22 people were slightly injured in the quake.

The National Disaster and Emergency Management Agency (AFAD) stated that the earthquake was felt by the residents of the Yesilyurt district, which was recorded at a depth of seven kilometers underground in the neighboring provinces.

The governor of Malatya, Hulusi Şahin, said an abandoned building collapsed, and several injuries were reported.

And the Turkish Minister of Interior, Ali Yerlikaya, confirmed, in a tweet on “Twitter”, that “the earthquake occurred in Malatya with a magnitude of 5.3 at 20:48 in the Yeşilyurt region.”

He added that all teams of institutions related to rescue and emergency have started their work, in addition to conducting field surveys.

“So far, there is no news or information about human or material losses as a result of the earthquake,” said Salahuddin Gurkan, the mayor of Malatya, in contact with the “Khabar Turk” channel.

Malatya is located next to Kahramanmaraş, which was the epicenter of the two major earthquakes last February.

An earthquake measuring 4.2 on the Richter scale struck earlier today, Thursday, the Turkish state of Diyarbakir, in the southeast of the country.
