Abandoned boat with a huge load of cocaine washed up on an island in the Pacific Ocean

In the Marshall Islands, in the middle of the Pacific Ocean, a boat has washed up with a large amount of drugs. Last week, 649 kilos of cocaine was found on board the vessel, which was over 5 meters long.

More often drugs wash up on the islands, but never before has it been so much. Prosecutor Richard Hickson said the cocaine was packed in one-kilo packages and stored in a hidden compartment. He suspected that the boat had been adrift for some time. “Possibly a year or two.”

One scenario is that smugglers left the boat when they were about to be caught at sea, authorities say. Another theory is that they got into trouble in a storm.
